Where are our instruments?

Our primary instrument platforms are the Magellan Telescopes in the Atacama desert of Chile, one of the best places in the world for observing the night sky. The two Magellan telescopes are large, 6.5 meters (21 feet) in diameter, and each collects almost 1,000,000 times the light that the human eye can collect!

We have also proposed or tested prototype ground-based instruments on the Dupont telescope (instrument: FlysEye), the WIYN telescope (instrument: WISDOM), and the Giant Magellan Telescope (instrument: SuperFIRE). In addition to ground-based instruments, our group has worked on several space-based instruments including NICER which will be launched to the International Space Station in May of 2017, TESS which will be launched in 2018, and a suborbital instrument called REDSoX
